Abstract
Quality delivery of Mathematics lessons conducted through online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the major concerns faced by the administrators, lecturers and students. Different opinions from different people were voiced out considering the effectiveness of its delivery. This study explored how and what the mathematics students think and feel towards the online mathematics learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is both quantitative and qualitative in nature to examine the perception and level of satisfaction of mathematics students towards mathematics Online learning and to identify the factors affecting students’ learning through Online. Also, this study aimed to create an appropriate guideline in managing the mathematics Online learning. Students from St Theresa International College who took Math courses during the second semester of the academic year 2021- 2022 were used as respondents. The study revealed that: (1) students have positive attitude towards mathematics; and (2) students were moderately satisfied on the conduct of Math online learning in terms of Learners’ Dimension, Technological Characteristics and Instructors’ Characteristics. Nine (9) factors/indicators were identified to have a successful Online Math Class such as: (1) Instructors’ Professional Skills; (2) Learner Autonomy; (3) Learners’ Understanding and Retention; (4) Learners’ Attitude towards Mathematics and Online Learning; (5) Technological Concerns; (6) Instructional Material Concerns; (7) Convenience; (8) Lack of Motivation; and (9) Caring Instructors. The 9 indicators provided a picture for an effective Mathematics online class. With the focus shifted to these, effective online math class would be achieved and students will greatly benefit from it.
