Abstract:
The study determined the domains of sportspersonship and self-efficacy that significantly influence the sport motivation as well as the lived experiences of the SRAA athletes in Region XII during the fourth quarter of 2023. The study was a mixed method using the convergent design among SRAA athletes selected through random sampling and participants for in-depth interview and focus-group discussion selected through purposive sampling. Mean and standard deviation, and linear regression were used for the statistical treatment of data. The results revealed that sportspersonship, self-efficacy, and sports motivation are high. Moreover, athlete self-efficacy influences sports motivation. On the other hand, the experiences of the athletes relative to sportspersonship and self-efficacy that shaped their beliefs, attitudes, and commitments include manifestation of relishing moments, constructive criticism, sportspersonship, performance optimization, and adherence to sports ethics, and positive mindset. Themes emerged on the roles of experiences in shaping the beliefs of the participants include self-belief, adaptability, and determination. The themes that emerged that shaped the attitudes of the participants include self-discipline, skill enhancement, and gratification. Meanwhile the experiences that shaped the commitment of the athletes include self-motivation for skills improvement and commitment to excellence in sports performance.
