Abstract:

Filipinos use coconut milk as an ingredient in their dishes. To have fresh coconut milk, the coconut must be grated using a coconut grater. The purpose of this study was to design and assess the performance and acceptability level of the new machine compared to the conventional. The researchers observed the performance of the conventional coconut grater in their locality. From their observations, they made an improved design without the use of electricity. They fabricated the new design and gathered the materials needed. They tested the machine and distributed questionnaires to the respondents to gather the necessary data. The findings showed that in terms of performance, the pedal-operated coconut grater machine yielded an average weighted mean of 4.13 which means acceptable while the conventional yielded only 3.30 which means moderately acceptable. In terms of acceptability level, the new machine yielded an average weighted mean of 3.91 which means acceptable while the conventional one yielded 3.67 which is also acceptable. The researchers concluded that the new machine performed better and was more acceptable compared with the conventional coconut grater. The researchers recommended that the product be further improved using appropriate materials. The device can be introduced to the market for mass production.
