Abstract:

This quantitative study investigates the current status, challenges, and opportunities in managing virtual teams within IT companies in Beijing, China. A structured survey was conducted among 403 IT professionals to assess communication, collaboration, cultural alignment, and performance measurement within virtual teams. Results revealed that while virtual teams offer flexibility, cost savings, and access to global talent, their effectiveness is often hindered by communication barriers, time zone differences, and limited cultural cohesion. The study found moderate levels of effectiveness and challenge across all virtual team dimensions, with performance measurement and cultural adaptation emerging as the most significant hurdles. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant and positive relationship between the state and challenges of virtual team management and the realization of strategic opportunities. The findings suggest that leveraging collaborative technologies, cultural training, and robust evaluation systems can enhance virtual team performance. This research contributes to the evolving discourse on remote work, providing a strategic foundation for optimizing virtual team practices in the IT sector and beyond.
