The Role of Projects and Activities in Enhancing Creativity in the Filipino Language Learning of Grade 11 Senior High School Students of MSU-Sulu

Abstract:
This study, entitled "The Role of Projects and Activities in Fostering Creativity in the Filipino Language Learning of Grade 11 Senior High School Students of MSU-Sulu," was conducted among Grade 11 students of the Senior High School department of Mindanao State University-Sulu (MSU-Sulu), with a total of 100 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument consisted of two parts. The first part gathered demographic information of the students, while the second part comprised five statements related to project- and activity-based learning in the context of language acquisition and usage. The statements were rated on a five-point Likert scale ranging from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree." Descriptive statistics, including frequency and percentage, were used to analyze the first research question, while the mean and standard deviation addressed the second. An independent samples t-test was applied to investigate differences based on gender, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons based on other demographic variables. Pearson's r was utilized to determine correlations among variables. The results revealed that most of the respondents were 16 years old, predominantly female, had parents who completed college education, and came from low-income households. The students agreed that project- and activity-based learning positively influenced their acquisition of Filipino. No significant differences were found in the perceived effects of projects and activities on language learning based on demographic characteristics. Furthermore, the study found a moderate correlation between the subcategories associated with project- and activity-based learning.
