Abstract:
Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) played a crucial role in equipping individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies for employment and socioeconomic advancement. The effectiveness of TVET largely depended on the teaching competencies of technical-vocational educators. This study explored the teaching competencies of technical-vocational teachers in relation to instructional effectiveness and student performance. It examined pedagogical skills, technical knowledge, and professional attitudes essential for effective teaching in technical-vocational education. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing surveys and classroom observations to gather data from technical-vocational teachers across various educational institutions.
The findings indicated that while teachers excelled in industry-related competencies, they required improvement in pedagogical techniques. Specifically, teachers demonstrated strong technical expertise and adaptability to industry advancements but struggled with employing student-centered teaching approaches, implementing effective assessment strategies, and engaging in continuous professional development. The study highlighted the importance of balancing technical expertise with instructional effectiveness to optimize student learning outcomes.
Additionally, institutional support through structured professional development programs and competency-based assessments was found to be crucial in improving teaching effectiveness. Schools and training institutions were encouraged to implement targeted training programs to bridge competency gaps and foster a more student-centered learning environment. The study recommended integrating ongoing training initiatives to refine pedagogical approaches, ensuring alignment with both industries demands and effective teaching strategies. Future research should examine the long-term impact of professional development programs on teaching competencies and student performance, providing insights into sustainable strategies for improving technical-vocational education.
