Abstract:
This study presents the perceived effects of professional development
opportunities, management support, and rewards on faculty promotion. A total
of 61 faculty members of Quirino State University were randomly selected as
respondents. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including the t-test
and ANOVA, to test relationships.
The majority of the respondents were female instructors. Findings revealed
that faculty members felt empowered and enabled through professional
development opportunities, which fostered active learning engagement and
involvement in various activities. Respondents strongly agreed that pursuing
advanced studies and continuing professional development is necessary for
faculty promotion. Moreover, management support and rewards were also
identified as significant factors influencing promotion.
Faculty members who had served for 11 years or more expressed greater
interest in pursuing advanced studies. Their motivations included improving
teaching skills, increasing opportunities for better pay, achieving job stability,
developing a specialty, and inspiring future generations. Married respondents
placed more value on the University’s Program on Awards and Incentives for
Service Excellence (PRAISE) and faculty achievements, believing these contribute
to their commitment to excellence. They also tended to prefer internal promotion
compared to single or widowed faculty, as they sought to acquire the necessary
skills to advance their careers, achieve financial stability, and gain job
satisfaction.
Overall, the university supports its faculty members through salary
benefits, rewards for teaching excellence, and the addressing of special needs,
whether monetary or non-monetary. Results also showed that years of service
significantly affect professional development, while civil status influences
agreement levels regarding internal promotion and recognition. Academic rank
was likewise found to play a role in the distribution of rewards.
