Abstract:

This paper reflects on what I know about Manila and how I try to piece them together to understand the history of the place. It begins with my earliest memories of Manila, then my impressions and expectations of Manila as I mature as an individual and scholar. It will also describe my personal experiences in and of Manila and connect them with the past. Archaeology is the study of the past using material remains. I will try to incorporate the different aspects of materiality in my understanding of the materiality that is Manila.
