Abstract:
This study focused on developing and validating “DictTalk” as an Enrichment
Activity sheet for Listening Comprehension of Grade 9 English. This study followed the
design and development research method. The respondents of this study were chosen
through convenience sampling; they were 37 Grade 9 learners from Laguna College of
Business and Arts who underwent the pretest and posttest of the developed workbook.
The inter-rater-experts of the material were two (2) experts from Laguna College of
Business and Arts, ten (10) English teachers from the Basic Education Department, and
three (3) English teachers from other schools.
Using the four-point Likert Scale, simple mean, and t-test for independent samples, the
findings revealed that the developed and validated Enrichment Activity Sheets for
Listening Comprehension of Grade 9 English, based on the assessments of the
validators in terms of objectives, directions, topics, and practical exercises, were highly
valid (3.72, 3.72, 3.58, 3.64). Meanwhile, the level of acceptability of the developed and
Enrichment Activity Sheets for Listening Comprehension of Grade 9 English on the
assessments of the validators in terms of clarity, usefulness, presentation, and suitability
was highly acceptable (3.85, 3.71, 3.78, 3.64). There was a significant difference (p-value
.000) between the pretest (47.93 Did Not Meet Expectations) and posttest (64.23 Did Not
Meet Expectations) scores of the Grade 9 students. Findings revealed that the
enrichment activity sheets significantly increased the performance of Grade 9 students
as shown by the results of their pretest and posttest scores. It was evident from this
study that more resources and a variety of approaches were essential, even while
students' listening comprehension abilities significantly improved, but their post-test
results fell short of the anticipated competency levels.
