Learning Styles, Learning Environment, and Academic Performance of Grade 4 Learners

Carla Jean Aban | Ian Caliba

Discipline: Education

Abstract:

The study determined the learning styles, learning environment, and academic performance among Grade 4 learners of Iligan City Central School in the Division of Iligan City during the school year 2024-2025. The study was carried out during the third-quarter of the said year. The descriptive-correlational design was used in the study to determine which variable best predicted the dependent variable and whether there was a significant relationship among learners’ socio-demographic profile, learning style, learning environment and academic performance. Based on the findings, majority of the respondents were 9-10 years old, male, families who had an income of ?5,000.00 and below, with parental educational attainment largely limited to high school graduates. Furthermore, the study also identified varying learning preferences: visual learners performed best when reading words on the chalkboard, auditory learners excelled when given verbal instructions, and kinesthetic learners thrived when engaged in hands-on activities. Regarding the learning environment, students valued fairness in grading but preferred minimal teacher interaction during discussions. The academic performance was predominantly in the "very satisfactory". Study revealed that there was a significant correlation found between academic performance, learning styles, and the learning environment, with parents' educational attainment, family income, and visual and auditory learning styles being key predictors of academic success. Regression analysis further confirmed the impact of these variables on students' academic performance.
