The Talk Story: Maxine Hong Kingston’s Narrative Technique in The Tripmaster Monkey

Abstract:

Maxine Hong Kingston in The Tripmaster Monkey: His Fake Book, her first work of fiction, uses a narrative technique of dreams and stories to relate the story of the Asian-American in the Sixties. Kingston uses the same technique in transcending the conventional autobiography in Woman Warrior (1976) and adds the use of the monkey and the fake book to weave the thread of life of Wittman Ah Sing in The Tripmaster Monkey.
