To distinguish personality variables characteristic of achievers and underachievers, discriminant-stepwise method was employed. Mental ability and achievement needs discriminated the achieving and underachieving freshmen. Mental ability, goal-orientation, and practicality differentiated the sophomore achievers from the underachievers. Creativity, liveliness, and groundedness distinguished the junior achievers from the underachievers. Implications for interventions, and the content of the curriculum are discussed.
