Abstract:

BDSM (Bondage-Discipline, Dominance-Submission, and Sadism-Masochism) is one of the most well-known kinks, and part of this is sexual submissiveness, where practitioners get pleasure when submitting themselves to their partners. The interests of this study have been anchored in evaluating potentially having a mental illness or the existence of early trauma. On the other hand, instead of mental illness or early trauma as the root cause of having a BDSM kink, the study of Ten Brink et al. (2020) found that attachment styles substantially impact an individual's kink development. Hence, the study investigated the relationship between attachment style and the development of kink, specifically, the sexual submissive spectrum. It also determined the attachment style and the level of sexual submissiveness among individuals. The researchers used young female adults located within Laguna (N=105) as their respondents for this study. They were given two questionnaires: The Measurement of Attachment Style and the SMC to determine the attachment style and the level of their sexual submissive acts. The majority of the respondents have an ambivalent attachment style (45.28%) and were into receiving commands on how they could please their partner during sexual intercourse. Results from the Chi-square test showed that there is a positive relationship between attachment style and sexual submissiveness, especially the ambivalent attachment style. Meaning, individuals with ambivalent attachment styles have the highest desire to be sexually submissive to their partner
