Multifaceted Challenges and Innovations on China’s Anti-illegal Drug Trade: Inputs for Enhanced Legal Framework

Abstract:

The invention of drugs aims to cure diseases and alleviate pain, rather than destroy life. This study delved on the main characteristics of illegal drug trade in China and different anticriminality innovations to curb illegal drug trades. It utilized descriptive research design was used in this study with validated and reliable self-constructed questionnaire as the primary data gathering tool which was administered to 385 law enforcement officers including police officers, customs officials, and drug control department staff as they were directly involved in the crackdown and prevention of illegal drug trafficking. Results revealed that majority of the respondents were in their early adulthood stage, male and new in the service. Further, the respondents identified economic, political, technological, and social changes as significant challenges in combating the illegal drug trade and strongly supported innovative strategies, including theoretical, legal, and rehabilitation innovations, to address these issues. Additionally, the study revealed significant differences in responses regarding challenges and innovative strategies based on sex and years of service, indicating that perceptions of technological, political, and social challenges, as well as various innovative strategies, vary among different demographic groups. Based on the results, it the researcher proposed initiative which includes providing legal education and support to help participants understand drug laws and navigate the legal system, alongside vocational skills training and job placement assistance to enhance their employability in high-demand industries.
