Gender Sensitivity, Attitude, and Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching

Abstract:

This descriptive research examined the relationship between English teachers' gender sensitivity, attitude, and critical thinking to highlight the role of English language teaching (ELT) in promoting diversity. It described respondents' demographic profiles—sex, grade level taught, and years of teaching—and assessed gender sensitivity across learning materials, didactics, subject matter, and evaluation. Results showed that respondents were generally gender-sensitive, though some teachers resisted modifying traditional English usage, felt overwhelmed by addressing sexist language, or maintained the outdated use of "he" as a generic term.
