Andres Villasis: Isang Dakilang Pulahan sa Masbate, Samar, at Leyte

Abstrak:

Tatalakayin sa papel na ito ang ginampanan ni Andres Villasis, isang dating rebolusyonaryo na sumanib sa mga Pulahanes at nakilahok sa pakikibaka ng mga Masbateño, Leyteño at Samareño laban sa mga Amerikano. Ang pakikibaka ng mga Pulahanes laban sa kampanyang militar ng mga Amerikano ay itinuring lamang bilang maliit na bahagi sa pangkalahatang pakikibaka ng mga Pilipino. Ang pananaw na ito ay marahil nabuo sapagkat mula pa sa umpisa ay hindi sila itinuturing bilang mga rebolusyonaryo kundi mga bandido. Dahil dito, hindi sila nabibigyan ng karapat-dapat na pagkilala sa kanilang pakikibaka katulad ng pagkilala sa mga rebolusyonaryong Pilipino. Bibigyang-diin sa papel na ang pakikibaka ni Andres Villasis ay kapantay at bahagi sa pakikipaglaban ng mga Pilipino laban sa mga Amerikano. Bagama’t natalo rin sa huli, ang kanyang kagalingan sa pakikipaglaban ay tiyak na tumatak sa isipan ng kanyang mga kalaban. Naninindigan ang papel na ito na si Andres Villasis, kilala rin sa mga alyas na Enrique Villareal at Enrique Dagohob, ay isang makabayan, rebolusyonaryo at hindi bandido. Ang kanyang pakikipaglaban sa mga Amerikano ay hindi lamang para sa kalayaan ng Masbate, Samar at Leyte kundi para sa buong Pilipinas.
