Adherence To Data Privacy Policies In Clinical Exposure Among Student Nurses

Abstract:

Data privacy and patient confidentiality remain to be one of vital responsibilities during clinical exposure among student nurses. This study aimed to determine the level of adherence to data privacy policies in clinical exposure among student nurses of Universidad de Zamboanga academic year 2024-2025.Specifically, this study assessed the level of adherence of student nurses to data privacy laws and policies in clinical settings in terms of knowledge, attitude, and practice, and identified significant differences and relationships based on demographic profile. The researchers utilized a quantitative- descriptive research design, and Lawrence Kohlberg’s theory of moral development as its framework. Using purposive sampling, researchers selected 226 third year and fourth year nursing students as participants.The study’s results revealed that nursing students exhibit a very high level of awareness, attitude, and practice toward data privacy and patient confidentiality. The results show that among the demographic profiles, only the year level of student nurses had a significant difference in their adherence to data privacy policies during clinical exposure. In contrast, sex and religion did not show any significant difference. The researchers recommend that nursing institutions strengthen data privacy policies both in classroom and clinical settings, to further sustain ethical and professional nursing practice among student nurses.
