Application of Extended Technology Acceptance Model in Determining the Intention of Academic Institutions to Use the Enhanced Modular Camera Rig in a Blended Learning Environment

Abstract:
Blended learning is a combination of in-person and online classes, which means that both faculty members and learners are still compelled to utilize their equipment to attend their classes. While video lectures aid the students in gaining knowledge, some issues still arise. As a means of addressing certain challenges, a modular camera rig was designed, capable of capturing classroom discussions by automatically zooming in to the speaker, reducing ambient noise, and providing sufficient lighting. Adopting the concept of the extended Technology Acceptance Model, this study aimed to determine the factors that influenced the intention of both teachers and students from various academic institutions in Metro Manila to use the device. A total of 600 participants were selected and asked to answer the questionnaire. It was found that tangible user interface positively affected perceived ease of use and technological self-efficacy. Perceived ease of use influenced perceived usefulness, behavioral intention, and actual use of the system. Behavioral intention was also found to have an impact on actual use. However, both sex and academic programs did not contain moderating effects. It was inferred that the perceived benefits of utilizing the camera during discussions may lead to their intention of actually accepting the system for classroom lectures and presentations. For future studies, researchers may dwell on other demographic profiles such as age and social status. Qualitative techniques such as personal and virtual interviews may also be employed to gain verbal insights from the participants.
