Abstract:
Foodwastemanagementisagrowingconcern, withbananapeelsoftendiscardeddespitetheirpotentialagricultural benefits. Rich in essentialnutrientssuchaspotassium, phosphorus, andmagnesium, bananapeelscanserveasan organic alternative to synthetic fertilizers. ThisstudyevaluatestheeffectsofdifferentbananapeelvarietiesSaba, Lakatan, Latundan, and Senorita as organic fertilizer for the vegetative growth of VignaradiataL.(mungbean) compared to urea. The experiment measured stem length, stem diameter, rootlength, leafcount, andbiomass.A controlled experimental setup was used, with fertilizer applications conducted weekly for six weeks. Statistical analysis revealed that Senorita banana peelssignificantlyenhancedrootlength(F=6.499,p=0.009)andbiomass (F=4.318, p = 0.001) compared to other treatments. However, no significant differences were observed in stem growthandleafcount.Thesefindingshighlightthepotentialofbananapeelsasanalternativetosyntheticfertilizers. Further research is recommended to optimize application methodsandevaluatelong-termeffectsindifferentsoil conditions.
