Discipline: Education

Abstract:

This research focuses on the bridging programs offered by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to students in Senior High School (SHS) in preparation for the selected course in a university. The researchers analyzed if the said program would affect the performance of students in the university particularly in the field of economics. Using descriptive and quantitative research design the proponents found out that the grades of SHS students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila particularly in Macroeconomics and Microeconomics when grouped according to their original track in SHS (ABM and non-ABM) does not show statistical differences. Hence, the bridging course offered to them will not affect their performance measured through their grades in these two subjects. It is then recommended that the program can only be an option for students and the university regardless of the track selection by the students. If the government continues to implement this, capacity-building through trainings and seminars, and continuous dialogue among stakeholders must be considered.
