Abstract:

Man's concern for language is dramatized fully in the tower of Babel, an old Biblical story of how men were disbanded through language because of their desire to be like gods. But a deluge, more powerful than the first, swept mankind. The world was cursed with a flood of words. Since then, man has been literally swimming in words - from the radio, television, newspapers, cinema, books, billboards, politicians, writers, scientists, etc. Somehow a survival kit has to be fashioned, else we shall all perish. Human isolation, alienation, failure to communicate - these are favorite themes in modern literature. They are bleak pictures of the future. A study is in order.
