The study sought to modify the cooling water system of Kalayaan Pump Storage Power Plant especially its generator coolers. It also aimed to determine the different procedures in maintaining the generator-motor sub cooling system as well as the difficulties encountered during maintenance; identify the parts of the cooling system which will be affected in modifying the system and which among the alternatives has the most suitable and economic design for the system; and enumerate the economic benefits that the recommendation may bring and the total cost of modifying the system.
It was found out in the study that the company is experiencing a prolonged duration of maintenance activity with duration of four days. This prolonged maintenance activity has a negative impact to the company because the whole system would have to be shut down during the period.
The study recommended three alternative solutions to solve the problem. There were different factors considered during the design of the alternative solutions. Some of these were reliability and availability of the components, size, cost, and characteristics. The best alternative solution was based on the maximum performance and minimum cost.
