Rizal and Athletics

Abstract:

Biographies of Rizal and essays on the different phases of his life gloss over his participation in athletics. Even his own novels practically make no mention of sports. In fact, it is only in Noli Me Tangere that he writes briefly about the sports spectacle of his era, if one considers cockfighting as a game, since it is merely a spectator's sport.
