Discipline: Philosophy, Religion
This study is based on Paul Van Buren's work "The Secular Meaning of the Gospel," which in its own right is a classic breakthrough in biblical studies. The method of linguistic analysis as employed by Van Buren in the interpretation of the Gospel is a hermeneutical tool which may very well serve the program of the indigenization and contextualization of theology embarked upon by contemporary religious educators. Today more than ever, the need for religious acculturation has been felt in the higher institutions of learning and the valuable contribution of Van Buren's masterpiece can no longer be ignored.
