Abstract:

The terminal was a dusty dirt parking lot where most of the buses were parked out in the sun along a hollow-block wall stained with urine. Only a few of the buses were parked in the shade, a makeshift garage that extended the length of another hollow -block wall. There was one bus scheduled to leave the terminal every hour, at half past the hour; those headed for Manila were stationed closest to the exit. Peanut and pork rind vendors held food packets up to the bus windows in search of customers. The day was hot, and the dirt reflected brightly in the sun.
