Pesticides are chemical formulations intended to control organisms that destroy food crops and other essential materials. They are also used to kill organisms that pose danger to health and life. Increase in agricultural yield and effective control of disease vectors are among the main considerations in using pesticides. Pesticides were first used as early as 1800. Synthetic pesticides were developed only in the early 1900s. However, research on synthetic pesticides was not properly established until World War II. One of the most well-known pesticides is DDT. It was first used in 1942 and since then has been considered a very effective control for insects.
