The Century-Old Filipino Colony in the United States

Adeudato J. Agbayani

Discipline: History

Abstract:

So far no historian has established the exact date of the formation of the first Filipino colony in the United States. The celebrated American born writer (Lafcadio Hearn), who wrote many books and magazine articles on Nipponese life, suggested that the Filipino lacustrine village ("Little Manila") at St. Malo, near New Orleans city, in the state of Louisiana was about half a century old more than 58 years ago this year.
