Abstract:

This paper was originally prepared as a preface to the Catalogo de la Exposicionde Cuadrof: de pintores Filipinos del Siglo XIX, which was published by the Club Filipinoas a guide in its exhibition of 91 paintings, held September 20-24, 1959, in its halls at All Manga Ave Manila. Owing to the limitation of space in the Catalogo, the paper was only partially published. Through the courtesy of the Club Filipino,the Journal of History is now bringing it out in full-Ed.
