Tonight, as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jose Rizal, our national hero, permit us, the Samahang Laguna (the Laguna Association) to greet you all, our beloved countrymen. We like to recall with you the love and devotion with which Rizal in his lifetime lavished his _country and people, as well as the service and patriotism, which he nurtured and developed to the end that in so doing, he gladly gave up his mortal and physical self on the fields of Bagumbayan where the tyrant's bullets snatched him away from us so that his spirit could" go where no slave before the oppressor bends, where, faith can never kill, and God reigns e'er on high!"
