Bikol Historiography: Trends and Prospects

Abstract:

This is a preliminary review of studies on the Bikol Region (which includes the provinces of Camarines Norte and Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes and Masbate, including Burias and Ticao Islands), covering both published and unpublished materials. It is a very cursory survey of the more important researches done not only by historians, but also by other social scientists who have engaged in various aspects of Bikol studies. The present review is not intended to give a full inventory of all published and completed works but to provide an insight into Bikol studies that have been done and to point out what research needs to be done to approximate the studies that have been done for other areas of the Philippines.
