Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the relationship between the reading habits and the English writing proficiency of the selected First Year High School students of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba, AY 2009-2010. It adopted the descriptive correlation design in studying the reading habits and the English writing proficiency of the respondents. Pearson r correlation coefficient was used to interpret data.

Results showed that most of the selected first year high school students of the Colegio for AY 2009-2010 have moderate reading habits while they have below average both in grammar and paragraph writing as far as their total scores in the English writing proficiency are concerned. This implied that there is a relationship between the reading habits and English writing proficiency of the selected first year high school students of the Colegio, AY 2009-2010, although the relationship is very slight.
