This article tries to present some ways of viewing the common people. People who are associated with the people’s culture, popular Church, popular movements, etc. may be categorized as part of the common people. The common people’s identity, however, is far from being uniform or simple. Even if the term suggests simplicity, among the common people also lies a host of factors that make their identity more complex and difficult to decipher. The present paper tries to come up with a more nuanced way of viewing them.
