This paper presents initial findings of the study seeking to develop a Filipino counselor development model. It explored the experiences of counselors during the early stages of their practice. Using a Grounded Theory approach, 20 counselors of varying age and years of experience were interviewed. Results revealed six emerging themes related to who the counselors were and what they were doing during the initial stage of counselor development. Results were discussed in light of existing models of counselor development and its implication to counselor development in the Philippines.
