Curricular Relevance and Graduate Employability of Higher Education Institutions in Zamboanga City

Abstract:

The study, Curricular Relevance and Graduate Employability of Higher Education Institutions in Zamboanga City, was meant to ascertain the existence of relevance of the curricula to the employability of employed graduates of higher education institutions in Zamboanga City.  The study tried to establish if a significant difference in the responses of employed graduates and their employers exists with respect to the extent of relevance of the degrees obtained by graduates of higher education institutions to their present jobs and graduate employability.  In addition, the study determined whether personal attributes, politics and ‘type of HEI graduated from’ influenced the employability of higher education institutions’ graduates.

            Data for this study were obtained from 189 employed higher education institutions graduates of Western Mindanao State University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Universidad de Zamboanga and  189 employers from the City Government of Zamboanga’s eighteen department employers, fifty-three regional government agencies and fifty-four major industries utilizing quantitative-descriptive survey questionnaire-checklists.

            It was concluded that there was relevance of the curricula to the employability of graduates of higher education institutions in Zamboanga City. Personal Attributes and “Type of Higher Education Institutions graduated from” influenced the employability
