Abstract:

The study determined the socioeconomic and demographic profiles of selected mothers in Brgy. San Antonio, Bay, Laguna and the level of observance on their health practices in the prevention of postpartum infection. It also aimed to make a health education tool in preventing the said disease. Descriptive comparative research design was used in the study. Researchers’ self-made questionnaires were given to 70 mothers selected through convenience/purposive sampling method. Data gathered were analyzed using relative frequency, weighted mean, t-test, and ANOVA. It was found out that the socioeconomic and demographic profiles of the respondents do not affect the health practices on preventing postpartum infection. More than half of them were able to practice preventive measures excellently. The health practices they performed at home or in health centers did not differ at all. The study recommended that mothers in Brgy. San Antonio, Bay, Laguna and nearby places should use the health education tool constructed in the study. Further studies should also be done to make a model and set standards of health practices in a specific area including factors affecting or influencing health practices.
