Discipline: Agriculture, Pest Science

During the 1996 wet season (June-October), sheath rot (ShR) was first observed in cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) line IR62829A in hybrid rice seed production plots at the District Seed Farm, Susunia, Bankura, West Bengal. Since then, it has been observed in different CMS lines under natural field and pot conditions at the Rice Research Station, Bankura and Chinsurah, West Bengal. Critical observation showed that symptoms on CMS lines almost resembled those produced bySarocladium oryzae.
