This study aims to inform the reader of the administrative and human resource practices and policies adopted in a typical family-owned tyre manufacturing company in India. The company selected for study, is a case in point where owing to the lack of proper policies, several lock-outs have occurred. Thus, this study highlights the importance of well-structured HR policies. Detailed data about the compensation and perquisites has been collected from 1990 till early 2011. The paper attempts to see the progression of the firm’s policies which are still not mature, with respect to the industry standards and multi-national tyre manufacturers.
