Abstract:

In general, the study anchors itself on the improvement of the quality of life of the Filipino people through the establishment of a stable national security by establishing a strong, efficient and responsive Armed Force. A strong Armed Force would depend primarily on the quality of its leaders; hence, there is a necessity to improve the quality of graduates in the Philippine Military Academy, which is the premier source of the regular officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. To improve the output, the Philippine Military Academy has to recruit the right candidates during the selection process.

From the study that was conducted, results would show that the Philippine Military Academy has recruited cadets with good High School Mathematics (HSM). With this, the cadets/respondents have a very good overall performance inside the Academy. It is seen, further, that the Philippine Military Academy Basic Mathematics (PMABM) achievement poses a moderately strong influence on the cadets’ overall performance (GPA) in the Academy. Among the independent variables measured in this study, the Philippine Military Academy Basic Mathematics (PMABM) achievement is the best predictor of the cadets’ overall performance (GPA). This is followed by the High School Mathematics (HSM) achievement; and the weakest predictor is the Cadet Qualification Test Mathematics Sub-test (CQTM) achievement.
