Discipline: Education, Study and Teaching
Fostering collaboration between academe and industry is currently regarded as imperative for the total development of globally competitive graduates.
The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), consistent with its mission to transform graduates with full competence in their fields of study, has mandated the inclusion of productivity/linkage as a core process in all academic units. This was conceived in response to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)’s thrust of promoting relevance and responsiveness through industry-academe partnerships and international linkages. This process ensures the establishment of strategic alliances to better equip all TIP graduates with the required industry-desired competencies. Programs and initiatives to encourage productive partnerships with industry have been initiated. The process also includes a mechanism for review and continual improvement in order to attain sustainability.
The paper discusses the school’s strategy of promoting and facilitating collaboration with industry, the implementation of industry-academe programs and the outcomes of a mutually beneficial partnership with industry, and the monitoring and evaluation of these initiatives. The techniques used proved effective in meeting the school’s initial targets with regard to industry-academe collaboration.
