Why Teach Reading in College?

Abstract:

Reading is a primary avenue to knowledge. For some the path is wide, paved, straight, with all road signs where they should be. The great majority, however, do not have it so easy. The path may be just a dirt road, full .of ruts, cut across by thorny bushes and thick undergrowth.
