Abstract:

It is more than five years ago that Pope John XXIII convened the 21st Ecumenical Council in Rome - the first held in nearly one hundred years, the second within the last four hundred years. The moving spirit behind the Council was aggiornamento, literally meaning "to bring up to date. Simply put, the Church was seeking ways and means by which it could come to terms with its own time. The Church wanted to make the Faith more vital and meaningful to modern man.
