Abstract:

This research determined the waste management practices of Palmera's Garden Restaurant and the ways to improve them. Based on interview and observation, the researchers found that the major types of waste in the restaurant were plastic, paper, leftover food among others and the primary waste management practices employed were disposing and selling to junk shop. The restaurant was not putting up separate bins for each type of waste since there were garbage bins in the different areas and some trash bins as well in the public area. The researchers recommended that the management build an appropriate waste storage facility that could house the variety of waste generated by the restaurant to store waste properly and safely; and, to adequately segregate wastes prior to disposal. The restaurant should provide a separate trash container for recyclable, biodegradable, and non-biodegradable waste.
