Level of Knowledge on Food Safety and Sanitation of Staff of the Carenderias along Fr. Selga St., Bankerohan Davao City (Mariam’s and Lucky Eatery)

Abstract:

Food handlers worldwide should have solid understanding of the sanitation process which is one very important step in combating food-borne diseases. Sanitizing food handling equipment reduces bacteria and viruses to a safe level. Understanding food related sanitization methods, what and when to sanitize and the tools to use for sanitization play vital roles in the fight against food-borne disease. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of knowledge on food safety and sanitation of staff of the Carenderias along Father Selga St., Bankerohan Davao City (Mariam’s and Lucky Eatery). The respondents of this study involved the food service staff from Carenderias along the said area. The importance of this study is to assess the level of knowledge on food safety and sanitation in their food safety and sanitation practices. The staff of Mariam’s and Lucky Eatery served as the respondents of this study. This study aimed to determine their level of awareness, knowledge on food safety and sanitation on food handling sanitation practices developed in terms of criteria listed in the survey questionnaires. Descriptive method was used in this study and the data collection was done through survey form. The t-test was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the two variables. The results of the study revealed that the college level staff performed much better when it comes to food handling and storage practices. Also, the college level and high school level staff could equally function well in terms of personal hygiene. It is therefore recommended that the food safety programs of the government for small business owners like that of Carenderias must be intensified.
