Abstract:

This study was conducted in order to determine a comparison on the level of preferences of young urban professionals between hotel and public bars in Davao City. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: (1) What is the demographic profile of the customers in terms of age, gender, civil status, income and occupation? (2) What is the level of preferences of young urban professionals between hotel and public bar in Davao City according to taste and quality of food and beverage, prices, cleanliness and sanitation, service of staff and ambience? (3) Is there a significant difference in the level of preferences of young urban professionals between hotel and public bar? The researchers selected two bars in Davao City, the Eagles bar of Marco Polo Hotel and the After Dark Resto Bar at Sandawa as public bar. The researchers used survey questionnaires to acquire information from the respondents. Findings revealed that most of the respondents were single male with ages 26 to 30 and with income ranging from P5,000.00 to P15,000.00 a month. In conclusion, cleanliness and sanitation is the most preferred service in a public bar while the ambiance of the hotel is the most preferred service in hotel bars. However, the findings suggested that there is no significant difference in the level of services of the two bars in terms of indicators that were tested. This finding implies that services of the bars are quiet similar.
