Relevance of Beach Resorts in a Tourist Municipality: A Multi-Sectoral Perspective

Abstract:

People need a clear, compelling vision of an equitable, sustainable economy that brings a high quality of life for everyone. This study was conducted, among 35 individuals to determine the economic relevance of beach resorts operating in Moalboal. Applying the multi-method and interview guide questions, the results indicated that most of the beach resorts operating in Moalboal, Cebu were owned and managed by foreign investors for over 20 years. All beach resorts had minibar, provided wifi connection, offered island hoping, used Agoda for booking. Moreover, most guests availed family rooms and majority were Germans and Chinese. Further, the resorts gave employment to the locals of the community, provided local services and income, helped in protecting the environment, promoted the community as tourists’ destination, and contributed to the economic progress of the area. Also presented were challenges encountered by the beach resorts.
