Multilingual proficiency is an advantage that helps a person to be successful. However, this line of thought has been a subject of many debates and studies as to whether or not multilingualism positively or negatively affects one’s acquisition of language. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between multilingual proficiency and metalinguistic awareness among 260 Grade 11 senior high school students in Davao City. The descriptive-correlational method of research, mean and standard deviation, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, and multiple linear regression were employed in the study. Test on verbal fluency was utilized to determine the multilingual proficiency and tests on syntax, morphology and pragmatics were used to assess metalinguistic awareness. Results showed a moderate level or multilingual proficiency among the respondents. The level of metalinguistic awareness of the respondents was found to be low. Moreover, the results revealed that the relationship between multilingual proficiency and metalinguistic awareness was significant. Lastly, the results indicated that multilingual proficiency significantly influenced metalinguistic awareness.
