Abstract:

The global economic arenas continue to show an increasing uncertainty that poses risks to corporate leaders globally, specifically in the UAE. Such uncertainties include increasing strategic discontinuities, disequilibrium conditions, confusing industry boundaries, hypercompetitive local and global markets, emerging disruptive technologies, and the inability of organizations to optimize operations due to talents that were not properly acquired or developed with the continuous changing expectations of employers and employees. Rightsizing for organization became a trend, retaining only the right skill sets. These changes have redefined the successes on a global scale, particularly in Abu Dhabi. It is in this context descriptive survey research was conducted on the Strategic Acquisition and Development of Skills through Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Training of our Overseas Filipinos (OFs) by providing effective training and development programs for Filipinos to become globally competitive, in Abu Dhabi in particular. The study was conducted through an online survey from Filipinos in Abu Dhabi. Based on research findings, there is a strong perception of the importance of TESDA training in skills acquisition and development. The majority are encouraged to attend TESDA training, workplace demands acquiring and developing their skills, of which five skills were identified to be the most demanding skills.
