Crisbie B. Yanez

Abstract:

Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) is one of the subjects offered in the Junior High School Curriculum of the Department of Education. It aimed towards moral formation of the youth by developing in every learner the five (5) macro skills such as, pag-unawa (understanding), pagninilay (reflecting), pagsangguni (consulting), pagpapasya (decision-making) at pagkilos (implementing) to be evident in their actions. This study investigated how the EsP macro skills of the students are developed with the integration of guidance techniques. It employed descriptive-quantitative research design. The respondents were 91 Grade 10 public school students. Descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean distributions, correlation coefficient and analysis of covariance were used to determine the level of macro skills of students before and after the intervention. Findings revealed that students’ macro skills on “understanding skill” or “pagunawa” and “reflecting skill” or “pagninilay” were found to be significant. This means that the integration of guidance techniques showed an increment after the intervention. Furthermore, there was a need to develop students’ macro skills on “pagsangguni”, “pagpapasiya” and “pagkilos”. This study pointed out the need for teachers to provide students opportunities to learn through their modality of strengths and capabilities with the integration of guidance techniques to enhance teaching strategies in order to improve their ESP macro skills.
