Abstract:

This study's main focus is to assess the Beliefs and Practices of Consumers on the use of Herbal Medicine on Selected Barangay in Lipa City and develop a public awareness program which was anchored from Self- Care Theory developed by Dorothea E. Orem. The researcher used a quantitative questionnaire adapted from the study of Patterson and Arthur (2009). A researcher questionnaire administered to the respondents of the study consists of 100 person distributed according to Barangays, Anilao-Labac, Cumba, and Kayummangi. Based on the study results, most of the respondents believed that herbal medicine is safe as it is derived from natural sources and effective as it improves their physical well-being. The respondents often use different preparation methods depending on the raw materials gathered. They frequently use leaves in their selection of herbal medicine and often use juicing, compressing, and smearing as application. Moreover, the respondents' age, education, and sources of recommendation are significantly related to the respondents' beliefs and practices regarding the use of Herbal Medicine. As a result, Public Awareness Program Plan was developed, which consists of activities and strategies that will cover months of January to August of the year 2019 to increase the awareness and educate three barangays, Anilao-Labac,Cumba, and Kayumanggi, in the form of seminars and programs and developed public awareness material.
