Hope as a Moderating Factor on the Relationship between Academic Stress and Resilience

Alicia F. Estrellado | Jerome A. Ouano

Abstract:

Students are exposed to academic stressors that can dampen their resilience, but the harmful effect of academic stress may be moderated by students’ hope. The aim of the study was to identify the relationship between academic stress and resilience among college students and to examine the how locus of hope moderates this relationship. Data were collected from 665 college students through a survey using self-report questionnaires. Results revealed that academic stress was inversely related with resilience and that locus of hope has a moderating effect on the relationship between academic stress and resilience.
